Toronto in the winter can be a beautiful time of year for those that are brave enough to bundle up and make use of the endless snowshoe trails that are within close proximity to the city. Whether your planning a family snowshoe trip, men’s snowshoe or women’s snowshoe trip there are enough trails within close proximity to the city to keep you busy all winter. Scarborough Bluffs Trail
Level Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 6.8 km return
This is a great snowshoe trip to do that lets you explore the beauty that Lake Ontario has to offer. With very little of elevation gain this trail is perfect for a very easy family snowshoe trip that is perfect for getting your kids snowshoeing. This trail stretches from Scarborough Bluffs Park to Cudia Park with Bluffers Park beach in-between offering washroom facility’s.
High Park Area Trail
Level Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 5.2 km return
High park is the largest park in Toronto. High Park ski club offers more cross-country/snowshoe day trips than any other ski club in the GTA. There are guided snowshoe trips also available. The lake here is popular with hikers and mountain bikers in the summer. It is also a great dog friendly trail that will allow your dog off leash in some areas.
Taylor Creek Trail
Level Difficulty: Easy
Distance 7.1 km
Located with close proximity to the city this is another trail that will be fun to snowshoe after the next big snowfall hits the city. Dogs must be on leash.
Humber River Recreational Trail
Level Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 8.2 km return
This trail winds along the Humber River and eventually connects to the Waterfront Trail. The Humber River was dedicated as a Canadian Heritage river in 1999. Its a great escape away from the life of the city. Shortly after starting your snowshoe trip you will cross my a cascading waterfall along the river. A lot of people complain about the signage being poor so it will be helpful to bring a map before you leave.
Wilket Creek Trail
Level Difficulty: Easy
Distance 3.7km return
Access this trail from Toronto Botanical Gardens. This is a very easy trail. Make sure you buy some kids snowshoesto bring the kids on this trip. Dogs must remain on leash.
Moore Park Ravine Trail Loop
Level Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 6.1 km loop
This trail has very quick and easy access from downtown Toronto. Escape the concrete jungle of downtown and enjoy the natural beauty this trail has to offer. This trail is one of the most beautiful trails in the area. Because of the popularity the trail if its possible to go during the week it will be much quieter.
Tommy Thompson Park

Difficulty Easy
Tommy Thompson Park is situated on the shores of Lake Ontario. Offering 12 kms of easy snowshoeing it’s perfect for a relaxing day enjoying the city skyline and frozen marina bays. There are plenty of winding paths that lead you down to the waters edge. Because the trail is located in the shores of Lake Ontario is it can get windy and in frigid temperatures you might want to pick a different trail that day. The main drawback for this park is you have to leave your furry friend behind as there is a no pet policy.
Snow Valley
Level Difficulty: Easy-Difficult
Distance: 1.8-3.7 km
Perfect for a full day trip as it a couple hours drive north of Toronto. This is perfect for all different snowshoe levels. There are six different loops to choose that range in distance from 1.8 km to 3.7 km. The trails are all marked well. There is a $10 per person trail pass. For a really full day they also offer skiing and snowboarding as well as snow tubing for those thrill seekers. Don’t forget to warm up in the lodge in front of a fire with a hot drink after a full day in the snow!
